A refrigeration appliance does best in a dry, well-ventilated room. Position the appliance away from heat sources, such as direct sunlight, stoves, radiators and heating devices. Make sure that the condenser installed in the back of the refrigeration appliance is always clean. Do not cover the ventilation opening at the top of the appliance – air has to circulate properly around it. If there is a cabinet over the refrigeration appliance, the distance from the bottom of it to the top of the appliance housing must be at least 10 cm.

This is normal. The refrigerator compartment is equipped with an automatic defrost system. When the compressor is not working, the back wall of the compartment defrosts and the water flows into the basin installed above the compressor and then evaporates.

What if water appears on the bottom of the refrigerator compartment or on the glass shelves?

Check to make sure that the defrost drain is not clogged and that the moisture that has turned into water is going into the basin installed above the compressor. Clean the defrost drain inside the refrigerator compartment with a cleaner made for that purpose.

Make sure that the food or dishes stored in the refrigerator compartment are not touching the rear wall of the compartment and are not interfering with the flow of defrost water. Move food and dishes away from the wall.

Check to make sure that the basin for defrost water has not slipped off the compressor. If it has, put it on the compressor.

This is because the relative humidity is higher than 70 per cent. Ventilate the room where the appliance is installed, and eliminate the cause of moisture if possible.

A freezer or freezer compartment of an appliance must be defrosted at least twice a year, or when a layer of frost thicker than 5 mm has formed. The thicker the layer of frost in the compartment of the appliance, the more electricity the appliance consumes. In order to defrost a freezer compartment, you have to:

  • unplug the refrigeration appliance;
  • remove the products from the compartment, place them in a container, cover it with a cloth and place in a cool place;
  • leave the freezer compartment door ajar.

Once the frost has melted, clean, dry and air out the refrigeration appliance. Remember: neither power tools or similar objects nor electric heaters should be used to speed up the defrosting process.

SNAIGĖ fridge-freezers and freezers are economical, but electricity consumption can be further reduced by using a few simple tips:

  • do not cover the ventilation opening at the top of the appliance – there must be adequate air circulation around it. If there is a cabinet over it, leave at least 10 cm from the bottom of it to the top of the appliance housing;
  • position the appliance away from heat sources, such as direct sunlight, stoves, radiators and heating devices;
  • defrost the fridge-freezer in a timely manner – keep in mind that the thicker the layer of frost, the more electricity the appliance consumes;
  • never put warm products in the fridge-freezer, since electricity is used to cool them! Put food in the fridge-freezer when its temperature is no higher than room temperature;
  • do not leave the door of the refrigeration appliance open;
  • only keep the fridge-freezer door opened for as long as you need to take out or put in food;
  • thaw frozen food in the refrigerator compartment – products that are thawed slowly taste better, and the cold they emit is used to maintain the temperature set in the refrigerator compartment.

First, reduce the temperature in the refrigerator compartment.  You can do this by setting the temperature on the electronic control scale to 1 or 2. Or, if your refrigerator has mechanical controls, you can do so by turning the thermoregulator knob to 4, 5 or 6. Choose the temperature of the refrigeration appliance according to your needs.

The temperature in the refrigerator compartment may vary due to the ambient temperature, the amount of food, and the frequent opening of the refrigerator door. It is advisable to:

  • position the refrigeration appliance away from heat sources;
  • make sure that the temperature of the food put in the fridge-freezer is no higher than room temperature;
  • do not leave the fridge-freezer door open, and only keep the door opened for as long as you need to take out or put in food;

IF THE ROOM IS COOL, THE REFRIGERATION APPLIANCE FREEZES LESS, SO THE TEMPERATURE INSIDE MAY INCREASE. Set a lower temperature by turning the thermoregulator knob.

Try to defrost the fridge-freezer. It may be that too much frost has accumulated in the freezer compartment. Even if your fridge-freezer has a NO FROST cooling system and it is not cold enough, defrost the fridge-freezer and keep it unplugged for about 24 hours. It may be that the freezer door was left open and the cooling system fan got covered in ice.

The compressor works non-stop when the refrigeration appliance has been turned off. Once the set temperature is reached, the compressor switches off automatically.  The compressor also works non-stop when the fast freeze mode is activated.

Check to make sure that:

  • the refrigerator door is not left open;
  • the door closes tightly;
  • the refrigerator was not left open for too long;
  • there is not too much food, especially warm food.

If your SNAIGĖ has a NO FROST cooling system, it means you have an inverter compressor. This is a variable-speed compressor that never switches off – it works constantly at the optimal speed.

Check to make sure that:

  • there are no problems with your electrical wiring;
  • the plug is inserted correctly into the socket;
  • the thermostat knob is not set to 0.

The noise emitted by a working fridge-freezer depends on several things: how the appliance is installed, how it is used, and if it is new or old.

Check to make sure that the fridge-freezer is standing on a stable, flat surface. Adjust the front legs to even it out.

Check to make sure that the fridge-freezer is not standing too close to the furniture, and that the parts of the cooling system at the rear of the housing are not pressed against the wall. Move the fridge-freezer away from the furniture or wall.

Check to see if the cause of the noise might be bottles, cans or dishes inside the fridge-freezer that are coming in contact with each other.

Only transport the refrigeration appliance upright! If it is nevertheless transported in a different position, do not plug it in for at least 4 hours, because this can ruin the compressor.

Protect the refrigeration appliance being transported from the elements (rain, snow, moisture).

Secure the refrigeration appliance being transported to prevent it from slipping and impact.

When the refrigeration appliance is running, various operating sounds are emitted during the refrigeration process; this is normal and not a malfunction.

Murmuring, bubbling or rustling sounds are caused by the cold circulating in the cooling system;

The refrigeration appliance compressor hums, and may cause a loud click when it shuts off.

If you want to store food for a longer period of time, it should be quick frozen to a temperature of -18°C or less. Products stored at this temperature do not lose their flavour, appearance, colour or vitamins. Fresh quality products are frozen in portions. The packaging is very important – it must be moisture-resistant, odourless and airtight. Plastic bags and aluminium foil are good options. The quantity of frozen products should not exceed that specified in the product instructions. It is best to store fresh products in the freezer or freezer compartment in portions. This way, the products freeze better and are more convenient to use. Place fresh food ready for freezing in one or two rows in the FAST FREEZE section of the freezer or freezer compartment. Turn the thermoregulator knob to the lowest temperature. After 24 hours, transfer the frozen food from the FAST FREEZE section to a drawer in the storage section. After freezing the products (after 24 hours), be sure to turn the thermoregulator knob to its original position.

Your SNAIGĖ can serve you much longer than its individual parts, especially the ones that are most often touched, pulled and pushed. You do not need to replace the refrigerator if the tub or the handle is broken. You can purchase all original SNAIGĖ refrigerator parts and components in the SNAIGĖ store or order them from SNAIGĖS SERVICE authorized partners.
